Campus Placement Guidelines

All students expecting to graduate from the Institute by the end of the academic year
(July 31) and actively seeking employment are eligible to register for campus placements.
Registration will be open twice a year—during August and January—through the
online portal managed by OCCaP.

Note for Ph.D. and M.Tech (Research) Students

Ph.D. and M.Tech (Research) candidates interested in final placement opportunities must submit a
certificate in the prescribed format, confirming that their thesis submission will be completed
before July 31 of the current academic year.

Important Information

  • Campus placement services are available exclusively to IISc students.
  • Registration is not mandatory for students who do not wish to participate in job or internship placements.
  • Registration is compulsory for those seeking placement opportunities via OCCaP.
  • Students with four or more pending course backlogs are advised not to register during the current placement cycle. They may register after the semester examinations in December.
  • Graduates from previous years are not permitted to re-register for campus placements.
  • Only full-time students enrolled at the Institute are eligible for campus placements.
  • Individuals employed as Research Assistants, Project Assistants, or part-time students are not eligible to register for placements.

Placement Process

All campus placement activities will be conducted exclusively through OCCaP, ensuring a fair and streamlined process. Please adhere strictly to the guidelines and deadlines announced for the current placement season.

Registration Process

  • Students must complete the OCCaP pre-registration form, which becomes available in July.
  • Upon registration, a unique student account will be created on the placement portal.
  • Students are required to accurately update all necessary personal and academic details on their account.
  • OCCaP will conduct a thorough verification of the submitted information. Any form of misrepresentation or falsification will lead to strict disciplinary actions, including suspension of the student’s placement account.
  • All official communication from OCCaP will be sent exclusively to students’ IISc email IDs. Students are advised to regularly check their IISc email for important updates.

Access to Placement Opportunities

  • Students can access detailed company announcements, job profile, and application deadlines etc., through the OCCaP portal.
  • It is the sole responsibility of the student to regularly monitor deadlines, as no extensions will be granted under any circumstances.
  • Once registered for a company’s placement process, students cannot withdraw voluntarily, except in cases where the job profile does not match their preferences, subject to OCCaP’s approval.

Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) & Off-Campus Offers

  • Students must disclose any existing Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) or off-campus job offers to OCCaP.
  • Students holding PPOs may apply to a maximum of two companies until December, provided these companies offer a minimum of 20% higher CTC than their PPO.
  • Non-disclosure of PPOs or off-campus offers will result in immediate cancellation of campus placement opportunities and communication of the breach to the concerned employers.

INDUSTRY INTERACTION DAY(S) AND PRE-PLACEMENT TALKS (PPT)

Campus Placement Guidelines

Campus Placement Interaction Modes

To facilitate effective communication between recruiters and students, the institute offers multiple
options for Pre-Placement Talks (PPTs). Companies may choose one or more of the following formats
to present their opportunities and expectations:

  • Documented or Recorded PPTs: These are shared via email, allowing students to review the content at their convenience.
  • Live Physical PPTs: Conducted either on-campus or through online streaming platforms, providing real-time interaction and Q&A sessions.

Important: Students are required to attend or thoroughly review these presentations before applying to any company, ensuring they are well-informed about the recruiter and the job profile.

Industry Interaction Days

To enhance student engagement and provide deeper insights into company operations, recruiters may
organize dedicated Industry Interaction Days on campus. These events can be scheduled as half-day or
full-day sessions and may include:

  • Detailed presentations about the company’s vision, culture, and projects.
  • Interactive workshops or case studies to simulate real-world challenges.
  • Networking opportunities with senior professionals and alumni.
  • Q&A sessions to clarify students’ queries and expectations.

PLACEMENT PROCESS

Campus Placement Guidelines

Slot System

  • 12-30 companies will be invited in every slot, which may be spread across 5-7 days for the interview process.
  • Results to be announced after the completion of every slot.

Rolling Process

  • After the completion of the slot system, companies will be invited on a rolling basis. Results to be announced on the day of the final interview.
  • Students selected by a company will be excluded from further campus hiring.

Please Note: Companies will be categorized into slots based on multiple factors such as salary package offered, departments from which the company intends to hire, company reputation, nature of the job profile, and past hiring records. The final decision regarding the grouping and scheduling of these sessions rests solely with the Office of Career Counseling and Placement (OCCaP).

Final Selection Offers

  • Students selected by a company will be blocked for that company but can attend one “dream company” interview from the same slot.
  • The “dream company” preference is collected from the students before the slot begins.

Outcome After Dream Company Interview

    a) If selected by the dream company:

    • The initial offer will be auto-declined.
    • The dream company offer is confirmed.
    • Students will be excluded from further campus hiring.

    b) If not selected by the dream company:

    • The first offer continues.
    • The student will be excluded from further campus hiring.

Discipline and Absenteeism Policy

Students participating in the placement process are expected to conduct themselves with utmost responsibility and respect during the campus placements.

1. Commitment to the Recruitment Process

– Once a student registers for a job or internship opportunity, they are obligated to participate in the entire selection process, unless they are officially rejected at any stage by the recruiting company.
– Voluntary withdrawal from any stage of the process without valid prior approval will be treated as absenteeism (see below).

2. Definition of Absenteeism

A student will be deemed absent if they:
– Fail to attend the Pre-Placement Talk (PPT), test, interview, or any other scheduled interaction/activity after registering, and
– Do not provide a valid reason via email to OCCaP at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled activity.

Consequences of Absenteeism:
– Immediate suspension of the student’s placement account on the OCCaP portal.
– Reinstatement of the account is at the sole discretion of OCCaP, based on a written explanation and supporting documents, if applicable.

3. Professional Conduct and Ethics

All students are expected to demonstrate discipline, integrity, and decorum during interactions with recruiters. Any of the following will result in strict disciplinary action, including debarment from the placement process for the entire season:

– Violation of ethical norms or misconduct as deemed by OCCaP or the recruiter.
– Any act that brings disrepute to the Institute, including unprofessional communication or behavior.
– Cheating, impersonation, or misbehavior during any selection activity (e.g., test, GD, interview, etc.).

4. Conduct During Online Assessments

– Students must follow strict online examination protocols:
– No unauthorized software, communication platforms, or browser activity should be active.
– Only the prescribed platform and tools specified by the recruiter may be used.
– Any form of malpractice will lead to immediate disqualification and debarment from placements.

5. Dress Code Policy

All students are required to appear in formal attire during any interaction with a company—virtual or physical.

Acceptable Formal Attire:
– Men: Formal shirt, trousers, and appropriate shoes.
– Women: Formal shirt and trousers, skirt or a pair of Salwar-Kameez (no binge).
– Optional Accessories: Ties, belts, and conservative formal accessories.
– Strictly Prohibited: T-shirts, jeans, casual shirts, caps, sunglasses, and any form of informal or flashy attire.

Students found violating the dress code will be denied entry to the selection process and will be marked absent as per policy.

6. Identity Verification

– Students must carry their Institute Identity Card for all placement activities—online or offline.
– Impersonation or identity misrepresentation will lead to permanent debarment from placements and may invite disciplinary action by the Institute.

All students are ambassadors of the Institute’s values and are expected to conduct themselves accordingly.
Non-compliance with the above policies will invite strict disciplinary action, including temporary or permanent debarment from the placement process. OCCaP reserves the right to interpret and enforce these rules at its sole discretion.

Offer Acceptance and Post-Selection Rules

The following guidelines govern the acceptance of offers and post-selection responsibilities:

1. Official Offer Communication

– An offer communicated via email by either OCCaP or the recruiting company will be treated as a firm and binding offer.
– Students must collect formal offer letters within the stipulated deadlines communicated by OCCaP or the recruiter.
– The responsibility to review the offer letter and comply with its terms—such as documentation, verification, and joining formalities—rests entirely with the student.

Note: If a student receives an offer directly from a company (without OCCaP intervention), it is mandatory to inform OCCaP immediately and share a copy of the offer for official records.

2. De-registration After Selection

– Once a student receives one or more job/internship offers, they will be automatically de-registered from the placement process.
– No further participation in subsequent placement activities will be permitted, except under specific conditions approved by OCCaP (e.g., offer cancellation due to medical or organizational grounds).

3. Offer Acceptance Rules Based on Slots

– If a student receives only one offer in a given slot, the offer is considered automatically and unconditionally accepted.
– If a student is selected by a Dream Company, the offer from that company is considered final and confirmed, overriding other offers.
– In cases where a student receives multiple offers excluding the Dream Company selection, the first offer received will be deemed automatically and unconditionally accepted.
– Students must declare their Dream Company preference within the stipulated deadline communicated by OCCaP.
– If a student fails to do so, the first offer received will be treated as final and binding.

4. Withdrawal from an Accepted Offer

In exceptional cases where a student chooses not to join a company after accepting an offer:
– A formal written communication must be sent to the company, stating valid reasons for withdrawal.
– This communication must be sent at least:
– Three months prior to the date of joining, or
– By 31st March of the respective year, whichever is earlier.

A copy of this withdrawal letter must be submitted to OCCaP.

Unprofessional withdrawal or failure to inform may lead to disciplinary action, and the institute reserves the right to report such cases to future recruiters or relevant authorities.

OCCaP reserves the right to revise these rules and take final decisions in all matters related to offer acceptance and post-selection conduct.
